What is Linguaskill
Linguaskill is a globally recognised online Business English exam from Cambridge English, designed to measure how well a candidate can communicate in professional and workplace environments. It is ideal for students preparing to enter the job market, working professionals, employees seeking promotion, and organisations that need to assess practical English communication skills for business use. Cambridge describes Linguaskill as a certificated, online and on-demand exam that helps employers and education institutions understand the English levels of their staff or students.
Unlike general English exams, Linguaskill focuses on English used in business and corporate settings. The exam tests language connected to real workplace situations such as buying and selling products or services, office communication, business travel, human resources, meetings, emails, reports, and professional discussions. Cambridge states that it is most suitable for recruitment in organisations where employees are expected to be familiar with the language of business.
The exam is modular, allowing candidates or organisations to choose the skills they want to assess: Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking. This flexibility makes it suitable for both individual learners and companies that need to test specific communication skills. Reading and Listening are adaptive tests, while Writing includes an email and a business report, and Speaking is completed using a computer with a microphone and headphones.
At Skill.lk, our Linguaskill Business preparation course is designed to help learners build the practical English skills required for the exam and the workplace. The course focuses on business vocabulary, professional communication, email writing, report writing, listening to workplace conversations, speaking with confidence, and understanding the exam format and task types. Learners will also practise Cambridge-style tasks so they can approach the exam with confidence.
Linguaskill results are aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages — CEFR, and the exam assesses ability from B1 to C2 level. Candidates receive a certificate with reporting on the modules they have taken, giving them a clear record of their Business English level for employment, professional development, or academic purposes.
